Before They Were Stars: Daughter of Sandy and Michael McCarthy, Melissa was raised in a large Irish-Catholic family. Even as a child, she was already putting on shows for her mother, and as a high school cheerleader she dreamed of being on Saturday Night Live. After studying comedy in New York, McCarthy moved to Los Angeles, where she remains a member of The Groundlings comedy troupe. She has launched a successful TV and movie career as a character actor, frequently playing the best friend, as in her memorable characterization of Sookie in Gilmore Girls.
Where Are They Now: McCarthy is still having a stellar career. Still starring in her Emmy-winning role on the CBS comedy Mike & Molly, Melissa is also getting attention for her scene-stealing Oscar-nominated role in the blockbuster Bridesmaids. McCarthy also shared the big screen with Jason Segel, Megan Fox, and Leslie Mann in the Judd Apatow film, This is Forty. But in the summer of 2013, you can’t cross the street without seeing a billboard promoting her cop comedy The Heat with her A-List co-star Sandra Bullock.
Snakkle Snippet: A Hollywood manager once told McCarthy she wouldn’t work in Hollywood if she didn’t lose weight.
Snakkle Buy: Get your daily dose of laughter with Mike & Molly Season 1.
