ATX Television Festival: Orange is the New Black is Back Y’All!
By Kerensa CadenasAustin’s ATX Television Festival got officially underway on Friday morning with Netflix’s Orange is the New Black. The critically acclaimed drama’s second season hit Netflix at midnight PST for viewers everywhere who will now not leave their homes until they’ve completed their binge watch which after seeing the first episode of the new season is completely justified.
Uzo Aduba, Lea DeLaria and Danielle Brooks represented OITNB with The A.V. Club’s Todd VanDerWerff moderating the panel. The funny and warm interactions between the women are surely representative of the cast as a whole which DeLaria spoke about. “[I’ve] Never been on a set as such a family.” The three dished on sudden fame after season one (DeLaria has signed a screwdriver!), the glory of Yoga Jones (Connie Shulman) who didn’t recognize Brooks at a Barnes and Noble and Natasha Lyonne’s comedic timing which jokingly pisses DeLaria off.
All three of the women spoke lovingly and thoughtfully about their characters. Aduba referred to “Crazy Eyes” as Suzanne and mentioned her love of how the character lives life. “I love how she lives with complete abandon.”
As for season two spoilers, the ladies remained pretty vague. Brooks mentioned that we’ll see more of Taystee’s backstory. However, all DeLaria said that viewers need to know is “#peanutbutter.”
