As a bespectacled senior at Blake Country Day School in Hopkins, Minnesota, the young Al Franken had a successful career ahead. He would eventually land on Saturday Night Live, where he gained fame for creating characters like self-help guru Stuart Smalley, whose famous catchphrase “I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me,” would become a tongue-in-cheek mantra for a generation.
