Since Surfacing, McLachlan released Afterglow (2003), a Christmas album called Wintersong (2006), and Laws of Illusion (2010). On the personal front, in 1997 the singer married her drummer, Ashwin Sood, and together they had two daughters, India and Taja. The couple has since divorced. Philanthropy plays a large part in her life as well, and for her fine work raising millions of dollars for causes ranging from women’s charities, AIDS patients, and inner-city children, Simon Fraser University conferred on Sarah McLachlan the degree of Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa, on June 13, 2011.
