Halle Berry—Today
Berry’s mother may have motivated the actress well. In 1991, Halle had her breakthrough role as a crack addict in Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever. Quickly cycling through successful roles, including Dorothy Dandridge in TV’s Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, which got her a Golden Globe nod, Berry became the first African-American woman to win an Oscar for Best Actress for her role as emotionally tortured Leticia Musgrove in Monster’s Ball (2001).
