Michael Long, an ex-cop who was a field operative for the Foundation for Law and Government, was shot in the line of duty and presumed dead. Long took the opportunity to change his identity and started working for Knight Industries, a privately funded justice organization. Long-story-short, Long becomes Michael Knight, an everyday man-turned-hero with some high-tech gadgets and a futuristic car.
