Head of the Class showcased a group of gifted students in the “individualized honors program” (IHP) at a New York City public high school. This wasn’t your run-of-the-mill sitcom about a white suburban family—Head of the Class featured a groundbreaking, multiracial ensemble cast and ran from 1986 to 1991. Then: Athlete and academic Alex joined the class near the end of the series. He capitalized on his good looks, intelligence, and dance moves to try and impress classmates Darlene and Viki. Alex starred as Berger in the school’s production of Hair—and stole the show.
