Mel Brooks Celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Young Frankenstein
By Richard AyoubLeave it to funny man Mel Brooks to add a prosthetic finger to his left hand for a traditional handprint/footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, our friends at RumorFix have the pictures.
The comedy legend attended the ceremony in honor of the 40th anniversary of Young Frankenstein, which arrives on Blu-ray on Tuesday.
“About time, huh?” Mel’s son, Max Brooks, joked as he introduced his 88-year-old father. Although Mel had fun with his extra finger, he was serious when he told the crowd, “Comedians never get their fair share of recognition in Hollywood. How often does a comedy get best movie of the year? I´m almost honored to be part of it.”
Mel was joined by longtime friends Norman Lear and Carl Reiner.
On Tuesday, Mel will also be honored at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. “Ever since I was a kid from Brooklyn in 1952 I came out here immediately to the Chinese Theatre and saw all these stars and their hands and their feet in cement,” he said. “And I was so impressed that when I did Blazing Saddles I ended the film with Harvey Korman dying being shot here.”
