The Notebook Turns 10! Relive Allie and Noah’s Romance!
By Kerensa CadenasEveryone’s favorite romance The Notebook turns ten today. Released on June 25, 2004, the film had relative success at the box office but gained a huge cult following leading into rabid fandom, inspired engagement photos and peak Nicholas Sparks film adaptation saturation.
The Notebook told the tale of Allie (Rachel McAdams) and Noah (Ryan Gosling) a star-crossed pair of lovers from different sides of the tracks who fall in love in the 1940s. Narrated from the present day by Duke (James Garner) to a fellow resident of his nursing home (Gena Rowlands), the movie clicks off everything you want in romance: grand gestures, intense make outs and a love triangle with two absurdly hot dudes.
The film’s romance bled into real life when stars McAdams and Gosling began dating and famously recreated “that kiss” at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards when they accepted the Best Kiss award.

Sadly, since then, McAdams and Gosling split but have both become huge stars in their own right. McAdams has hit up the romantic comedy scene with roles in Morning Glory and the Richard Curtis weeper About Time. She’ll next be seen in A Most Wanted Man in 2014.

As for Gosling, he also hit up the romantic comedy tip starring opposite Steve Carell and Emma Stone in Crazy Stupid Love where he mesmerized the world with his abs. He’s also garnered critical acclaim (and an Oscar nom) for his work in Drive, Half Nelson and Blue Valentine. Up next for Gosling is a still untitled Terrence Malick film and his directorial debut Lost River, which got mixed reviews at its Cannes debut.

The other part of this very attractive love triangle, James Marsden who played Allie’s fiance Lon, hasn’t been doing so bad either. He had a recurring role on 30 Rock as Liz Lemon’s “marzipan candy man” Criss Cross. He’s also continued his role in the X-Men franchise as well as a string of roles in films like Bachelorette, Enchanted and The Butler. He can currently be seen in Walk of Shame and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
