Snakkle Survival Guide: Brace Your Nerd Selves! San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Is Here!
Uncase your vintage Princess Leia gold bikini, your best Fukiyose Seiri anime costume or just slap on your favorite nerd T-shirt and get ready to rock the Con. That's Comic-Con 2012 to all you newbies. Snakkle has a few tips if you're heading to San Diego, so check it out! By Erin FoxOh, how our nerd hearts leap every year at the thought of joining thousands of fellow comic book, TV, film, and fashion (heh) mega-fans at San Diego Comic-Con.
For Snakkle, we’ll spend four fun-filled, sweaty days in the San Diego Convention Center covering everything from Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2, Dexter, Psych, Defiance (new show from the awesome Syfy peeps and written by former Battlestar Galactica writers), Teen Wolf, and Vampire Diaries!
FOR EVERYONE
So, we definitely wanted to direct you to the main San Diego Comic-Con website for the latest information on all of the amazing programming, artists, and booths you can check out while you’re there. But we also have a handy Comic-Con Survival Guide from the kind people at Click Communications.
You can even enter to win your own survival kit from Click here.
From my own experiences at three different Comic-Cons, I would recommend the following:
*Eat outside of the convention center, and bring water and protein bars for emergencies (like a 100-person-deep line at Starbucks).
*Sleep is for the weak.
*Shower early and often, and pack extra shoes and deodorant.
*Be nice! Karma is a b*tch.
FREE FUN
COMA EXPERIENCE FROM A&E
Fans can partake in an immersive experience into A&E’s Coma, a modern-day retelling of the Robin Cook novel and iconic film by Michael Crichton. Produced by Ridley and Tony Scott, the two-night special event stars James Woods, Geena Davis, Richard Dreyfuss, Ellen Burstyn, Lauren Ambrose, and Stephen Pasquale. It premieres on A&E Monday, September 3, and concludes on Tuesday, September 4, at 9 p.m. ET/PT each night.
Join the thriller experience of Coma from Thursday, July 12, through Saturday, July 14, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on 1st Avenue and J Street right outside of the San Diego Convention Center. Doctors will be handing out patient bracelets for admittance to the 15,000-square-foot Jefferson Institute, the ominous leading institute in coma patient care from the miniseries. Experience is free and will include:
Reception: Participants will be greeted by Jefferson Institute nurses, who will admit them into The Coma Experience. The nurses will guide the visitors to the security monitors so they can get a glimpse of what they’re about to step into as well as see exclusive, first-look footage from the miniseries.
Surgery: Nurses will then take fans to the experiential surgery room, where they’ll meet surgeons who will decide if they’re good candidates for the tour. If so, fans will have the option of getting a 3-D surgical scar tattoo. And there is much, much more in store for you if you partake!
For a fully immersive experience that extends beyond Comic-Con, fans can go to www.comaconspiracy.com, where they can activate a thrilling digital experience.
MOVIES ON DEMAND! Even if you can’t make it to Comic-Con, you can get in on the action on digital cable as well as through online features and games at www.rentmoviesondemand.com/comic. Geek out over some of your favorite classic sci-fi, horror, comic book hero, and fantasy films such as the new MOD premiere Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance and the ultimate tribute to the “Con,” Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope from Morgan Spurlock.
On site at Comic-Con, attendees should keep an eye out for costumed Movies On Demand brand ambassadors, who will be giving away awesome movie-related prizes. Fans will also have a chance to win Cable Cash gift cards good toward an MOD rental just for tweeting a special Movies On Demand message.
FOR THE KIDS
I think this one might be for the moms out there too (just sayin’), but Marvel announced that they are hosting a children’s Iron Man 3 costume contest. Just head to the Marvel booth (#2329) on Saturday, July 14, at 12:10 p.m., and if your little geeks-in-training (ages 2-14) dress up in that bulky metal suit of awesomeness, they will be taken onstage for a group photo op with Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr. Squee!
FOR THE LADIES
Also, for all you proudly nerdy ladies who are tired of buying T-shirts sized for 8-year-olds or 400-pound dudes, check out the awesome wears at the Her Universe booth at 2913-F.
Enjoy! Snakkle out…
