The Vampire Diaries Exec Teases Last Three Episodes: “No One Is Safe”
By Erin FoxSnakkle was treated to a sneak peek of Thursday’s episode of The Vampire Diaries, titled “Do Not Go Gentle,” and the show’s Executive Producer Julie Plec repeatedly made it clear that the last three episodes could result in any character’s demise.
Plec—who was joined by series stars Candice Accola (Caroline), Zach Roerig (Matt), Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy) and Michael Trevino (Tyler)—teased, “If (insert name of favorite character) is lucky enough to survive Season 3… “ —well things aren’t gonna be pretty.
We should have known the end of Season 3 was going to be brutal. After all, the kids were going to their Roarin’ ’20s decade dance. We all know how well dances end on Diaries. Are we right fans? But, even with the surrounding drama of the feuding Esther and Klaus, Elena’s guilt over hooking up with Damon and Esther’s quest to turn Ilaric into a super-charged vamp slayer, we still get to enjoy the gang getting gussied up flapper/gangster-style and strutin’ some fancy moves on the gym dance floor. For a few minutes…
We obviously can’t give away too much of the episode, but for us, we loved, loved, loved that in between crazy-important plot points, there were scenes chalk full of emotionally poignant moments for so many characters. Elena asks Stephan to the dance and he gives her such an out about whatever happened between her in Damon. He tells her that if one day they find their way back to each other, she can tell him then. Plec said that by the finale, Elena will make an important choice in that love triangle arena. But how does her brother Jeremy feel about this? Plec teased, “If Jeremy had his way it would be, ‘I chose neither of you f*ckers.’ Jeremy obviously is very protective of his sister and would probably choose Team Matt if given the choice.”
Also, Caroline finally tells Tyler that she’s not into Klaus at all, and that she loves him. But when asked if there would be more to the Caroline/Klaus/Tyler love triangle, Plec said. “Big time. Capital B, Capital T, big time!” When Accola was asked to weigh in on Caroline’s true feelings, she said “Even though she’s made so many mistakes, put her foot in her mouth and fallen for the bad guy, this is the first time she’s staying true to her feelings and not getting caught up in the guy with the accent. She’s sticking with that she loves her high school love boyfriend.” However, Accola said that Klaus does seem appealing in a wordly kind of way. “In high school, how can you not think of all of the sudden… when someone starts putting into your head thoughts of places to travel and semesters abroad and all theses experiences you’re gonna have as you grow up and grow older. I think that’s the only way she’s wooed in any sort by Klaus, is the idea that there’s another world out there.”
As far as the rest of the season is concerned, Plec says “the story path kept us going at high octane all the way to the end. The penultimate episode is very very adrenaline-enfused and there are some big, big mythology moves that happen and it’s a pretty big deal. Whereas the finale is more emotional, but it’s by no means the epilogue to the season. If anything it’s like half closing the door to one year and then blowing the freakin’ lid off the door to the next.”
If that doesn’t whet your whistle, not sure what will.
The Vampire Diaries airs Thursdays at 8/7c only on CW.
