The last five years spent with the titular spy on NBC’s Chuck have felt like they have flown by. Perhaps that is because the show delivered some short seasons; perhaps it is because we got used to it living perpetually on the bubble; perhaps it is simply that time really does fly when you’re having fun. And the cast and crew of Chuck certainly had fun! But through the laughs, there were also more serious moments, too. It’s better to have lost and loved than never to have loved a brilliant, genre-bending, beautifully written show at all. Joss Whedon’s scifi-Western Firefly lasted less than a season on Fox, but its impact has far outlived the series. The cast reunited briefly in 2005 for the movie Serenity, but for devoted fans—like us—there just wasn’t enough of what was, for a time, the smartest, most original show on television.
