Snakkle Celebrates 30 Years of Def Jam Records
By Kerensa CadenasTonight, Def Jam celebrates bringing the world 30 years of hip hop and R&B by holding a 30th Anniversary Concert at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY with favorite Def Jam artists from throwbacks like DMX and Ashanti to current artists 2 Chainz and Jhene Aiko.
Def Jam was founded in the NYU dorms by Rick Rubin and he was joined shortly after by Russell Simmons whom he was introduced to by Vincent Gallo. Crazy!
Their first two singles that were released with Def Jam catalogue numbers were by LL Cool J and The Beastie Boys.
Since then they’ve highly influenced hip hop and R&B by launching artists like Public Enemy, Warren G and DMX. Jay-Z even served as President of Def Jam from 2005-2007.
To celebrate Def Jam’s 30th, here are just a few of Snakkle’s favorite Def Jam singles of the last 30 years! What are yours?
