Before She Was a Pretty Little Liar: Lucy Hale the Singer!
By Snakkle StaffComments
Today everyone knows Lucy Hale as one of the four Pretty Little Liars on ABC Family, but when Hale initially came out to Hollywood it wasn’t acting that she had set out to do.
“I never thought I’d be sitting here, on a TV show,” says Hale. “My plan for my life was, I was going to be a singer. I was going to try to get a record deal, and somewhere along the way it took a different turn. It’s weird how setbacks and fallbacks can be blessings in disguise. Because if I had gotten a record deal I don’t feel like I’d be where I am now.”
Luckily, Hale has gotten to show off her acting and singing chops on PLL as well as in her new movie A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song, where she plays the lead character with an amazing voice, who just needs to be discovered by her Prince Charming.
“The movie is much lighter [than Pretty Little Liars],” says Hale. “It was fun. Who doesn’t want to play a Cinderella type character? People get to see me, as an actress, in a different light and I feel like that’s good.”
To see Hale in a completely different light, flash back to 2003, when Hale auditioned for the American Idol spin-off, American Juniors, and in the end became part of the quintet formed by the Top 5 contestants.
The group recorded a debut album, but disbanded shortly after, and Hale’s career an actress took off instead. “I just completely fell in love with acting, and I can’t imagine doing anything else now,” she says. “I’m very lucky to be where I am.”
The mid-season finale of Pretty Little Liars airs August 30 on ABC Family, A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song will be available on DVD and on-demand on September 6.
