By Tom HardejYou love the game, you love the movie, and now you’ll love the new Clue television series that premieres this week on The Hub. The show is about six teenagers who each correspond to a character from the classic board game. When Dmitri (Colonel Mustard), Agnes (Mrs. Peacock), Liz (Ms. Scarlett), Lucas (Professor Plum), Seamus (Mr. Green), and Whitney (Mrs. White) witness a crime, they have to come together to solve it.
We got to chat with one of the stars, Stephan James, who plays Dmitri, the natural leader of the group, and he gave us the lowdown on the new show.
1) The Characters
Stephan says that characters are younger than the characters from the board game and movie, and the whole concept has been modernized, from the situations to the way they solve the crimes. But, he says, the “six teenagers all embody some characteristic of the original iconic characters.… It’s not that I’m Colonel Mustard or Zach [Mills] is Professor Plum, but we have certain things that make us like them…. Fans of the game will get it.”
2) The Suspense
“Without being cliché, it’s one of those shows that keeps you on the edge of your seat,” says Stephan. “It’s dramatic and not cheesy, and it’s not something that seems unrealistic. After the six main characters are brought together upon witnessing a terrible crime, they go on an adventure, discovering hidden treasure, solving clues, and uncovering a secret society.”
3) The Mystery
The show revolves around one mystery that they will solve over the course of five episodes, and Stephan says that the audience will feel a part of the whole thing, working out the clues right alongside the six kids. But it’s different than the movie, which all took place in one night, in one house. Stephan says that “these young guys see something and go all over the place to figure out what happened.” The “game board” has been opened up.
4) The Candlestick
If you’re a fan of the classic game, you’ll definitely love the show. It may be a different spin, but all of the classic pieces of the game are still there. Stephan promises that the iconic objects, like the candlestick and the revolver, will still make appearances somehow.
5) It’s a Family Show
Clue is a show that kids and parents can watch together, and you don’t even have to be a fan of the game to enjoy it. Stephan says, “The age range is almost limitless. It’s something you’ll enjoy from young to old.”
