After Breaking Dawn: What Now, Twilight Fans?
By Brittany CarsonIt’s a question worth asking, given that we’ve officially run out of Twilight films, unless they turn the novella into one too (and that seems somewhat pointless). Now that all of them have been adapted, the cast are finally free to pursue other roles that will take up most of their time, and fans will have to find something else to get into on a yearly basis – The Hobbit seems like an adequate replacement, on that note.
The problem with a significant portion of the fanbase is identical to the problem a lot of Harry Potter fans had when that series ended. After all the books are out and the run of films has come to its natural conclusion, what do people do to fill the void save discussing a possible return of the franchise or plugging their love via a themed foxybingo.com username? There’s going to be a big hole to fill now that Twilight is done with, that’s for sure.
However, whether or not Meyer is actually done with Twilight is another matter entirely. While it seems a bit of a stretch for her to move forward with the series by jumping into the future to deal with Renesmee and Jacob’s ongoing narrative, given that the story then becomes science fiction as well as paranormal romance. Going back means getting rid of Bella and Edward, or at least Bella.
So for now, at least, Twilight fans are going to have to find something else to do – primarily, lobbying for Meyer to actually start releasing the series of books written from Edward’s perspective, as it seems like a legitimately interesting point of view to see the narrative from. Just don’t expect Robert Pattinson to return for five more films, as he’s made it pretty clear how he feels about Twilight.
