River’s Family
Born River Jude Bottom on August 23, 1970, River was raised by “hippieish” parents in a close, loving family. In 1979, the Bottom family legally changed their last name to Phoenix, after the mythical bird that rises from its own ashes, symbolizing a new beginning.
