Winter TV Preview: Television Critics Association Scoop!
By Erin FoxFresh from NBC’s Television Critics Association executive session…
LAW & ORDER: SVU
Who doesn’t want to see Mariska Hargitay get her groove on after exchanging 12 years’ worth of longing looks with her very married partner (we’re still pissed that you never let that happen, NBC—12 years!) on SVU.
Now SVU fans will get to see Detective Olivia Benson get some on-screen action! Who is the lucky fellow? Musician/actor Harry Connick Jr., who will play the new D.A. in a four-episode arc. Oh, and did we mention that Mariska is not only going to be more prominent in the rest of the season, but she’ll also be back next year! Our Snakkle girl crush is intact.
The best part about this news was the silly little video Mariska and Harry shot to spill the news. We even got a sneak peek of the two getting very friendly on a New York sidewalk. You crazy kids!
See Mariska’s high school yearbook photo!
RICKY GERVAIS
So, after all of that Ricky Gervais “did-he-go-too-far” drama at the Golden Globes last year, why bring him back to host again? NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt said that even though some members of the Hollywood Foreign Press thought Gervais had “crossed the line,” NBC wouldn’t have brought him back unless the press corp had voted him through. We smell a ratings boost!
See Ricky Gervais in an uutrageous ’80s new wave band!
COMMUNITY
Hang on to your paintball guns, Community fans! It has not—I repeat—it has not been canceled! Greenblatt explained that NBC has to see what happens with six comedies they have now and how they perform in the midseason. Then they can figure out where it can fit back in the schedule. However, he doesn’t know if there will be a fourth season. (Boo!)
